Figurative language

Figurative language is the hidden messages in what someone says or describes.

A simile is a comparison of two things using like or as.

A hyperbole is exaggerating to show strong feeling or effect.

A metaphor is two things are compared without using like or as.

A personification is giving human traits to objects or ideas.

An understatement is an expression with less strength than expected.
