This week for Reading we learned about QAR.

Lastly I had to write the answer

Two/three man settle

This week for touch rugby I learned how to do a two and three man settle.

First we practised two and three man settle to get ready for a game of touch. Coach mark told us to aim for one person when we drive the ball down the field.

Next we played a game of touch. The game was for learning how to play and how to use a two and three man settle.

I was able to help two settles well with my partner, Carson. I need to practise listening to my partner because i will not be able to know witch way he is.

I enjoyed playing touch because I learnt how to pass further away from my partner.

Kapa Haka performance

Today I went to watch a Maori performance at assembly.

First the performers blew a conch while walking on the stage. They also introduced them sleeves by performing a few dances that used Maori weapons. Afterwards they informed about the different kinds of weapons that they used.

Next they performed a Haka dance. After that our Kapa Haka boys replied back with their own Haka to the performers.

Lastly we learned to play a game called Maui Matau using the taiaha. When playing this game we had to go left when he said Maui, and go right when he says Matau. When moving left to right we needed to let go of the stick and get the stick before it drops on the ground.

I enjoyed performing the Haka because I have never performed a haka to the performers.

Maori | Translate

This week I translated names and conversation for the learning task.

First I learnt new Maori words such as Anei"Here", Ae"Yes", and etc.

The next I wrote the date in Maori. The date was "Ko te ramere tenei ra te rua tekau ma ono o whiringa arangi", which means "Thursday the twenty seventh of November".

Lastly I translated the Maori names.. Some of them that i translated are Ana(Anna), Arana(Allan), and Rona (Lorna).

I found this hard because I had to translate them without using the Maori Dictionary.

Resource Requisition | Inquir

All natural disasters start from bad weather. The materials that are suitable against a volcano eruption are: steel door, chicken wire, aluminum sheets, and concrete walls.

The steel door was to get in and out of the shelter when a natural disaster starts or finishes. This material has been chosen because steel is strong.

The concrete walls are out for the base of the shelter and the roof.  This material has been  chosen to protect against lava because it provides a strong foundation for an emergency shelter.

The aluminum was used for the inside layer to stop lava from coming in.  This material was chosen because aluminum is strong.

The chicken wire was used to hold the shelter together and extra protection against lava.

This material has been chosen to protect against volcanic eruptions because it can give the structure more protection and strength against lava.

Lots of materials can help protect against different types of natural disasters.

Kiwi sport

This week for touch we learned a skill called 2 and 3 man settle.

The 2 man settle was we had to run with 2 people. The person in the front holds the ball running to each cone to plant the ball down. The person behind is dummy half and passes it back to the person in front.

The 3 man settle was we had to run with 3 people. The person in front has to run by 5 steps with the ball to plant. The second person has to pick up the ball and pass to the third person who has to repeat the same thing.

After we played of touch and we used the 2 skills.

Table mat | Making connection | Synthesis

This week for reading we used table mat, making connections and synthesis to retell the the book that i read.

The first activity I did was Table mat

I first used skimming and scanning on a book called: The vege car. Then I wrote a prior knowledge about the book. After I had to find 3 keywords and an image to go along with it. After I had to ask questions about the key word. Then I had to find some facts that was related to the book. Last i had to write a question about the book.

The next activity i did was making connections.

Text-to-self connections are connections that a reader makes between a piece of reading material. Text to self is what links to what you do. For example: James nui's eldest son called James iti asked a question. My connections is i asked my dad 9 times table and he could answer them from 1 all the way to 12.

Text to Text is a text thats linked in a book or a movie. For example: James nui travelled around New Zealand. In the book wild people, some people travel around New Zealand.

Text to world is linking ideas in the world. For example: In 1893 a man called Rudolf Diesel Designed a car that ran on vegetable oil. My connection is New Zealand people designed cars that runs on petrol.

The last activity I did was synthesis.

First we had to write our prior knowledge that was writting in the table mat slide. Then we had to retell the book that related to the prior knowledge. Then we had to write what we learned.

Fractions

Fractions are whole things divided into equal pieces.

Halves are whole things divided into two equal pieces.

Qauters are whole things divided into four equal pieces.

Here are some examples of halfs and quarters.

Making connections

Making connections is when you use a text for yourself, text and the world.

The book I used was a book called electricity to link with a book that explains about power.

Text-to-self connections are connections that a reader makes between a piece of reading material. Text to self is what links to what you do. For example:
The dam has 4 big pipes that water pours in and goes in the powerhouse. My connection is at home I used a pipe that would fill a bottle up with a small cap hole.

Text to Text is a text thats linked in a book or a movie. For example: The dam has a pylon witch forms into electricity. My connection is in the book electricity it explains that electricity a form of energy resulting from the existence of charged objects such as electrons or protons.

Text to world is linking ideas in the world. For example:
The dam took 15 years to build. My connection is The Sylvia park ANZ building took a few years to build.

LI-To identify and describe connections.
